A cracking bumper that attracted 12 previous winners and one where victory went to last week’s Tipperary scorer MEADOW VALE.

The winner created a good impression when making a winning debut in that contest and delivered on the promise of that victory in a much better race. He was towards the rear of midfield heading into the final six furlongs and still had plenty to do turning in but stayed on strongly over the final furlong and a half to prevail. Clearly a smart sort, he has the potential to make up into a fine 2m4f novice hurdler.

Arctic Tour set out to make all in his bid to follow up February’s win at Down Royal. He looked to have done enough for victory when fighting off all challengers heading into the final furlong but could not respond as Meadow Vale swept by. This was a career-best effort from him.

Schindler’s Gold made a most encouraging start to his career, having been up with the pace throughout. He wouldn’t have any trouble winning a bumper and should make good progressfrom this. He looks a good prospect for next season.

The Black Lion was facing a much tougher test than the one he encountered when triumphing at Limerick nearly three months ago. He looked to be going best of all turning in and was still second heading towards the final furlong but had no more to give inside the distance.

Home Hunter was never far away and kept on quite well in the closing stages. He looked a useful sort when making a winning debut at Wexford last month and stepped up on that form.

Jered was a stylish winner at Fairyhouse earlier in the month. He was keen early on, which probably didn’t help his chances, and could do no more inside the final quarter of a mile. He is probably better than this run implies and could bethe type to do well over hurdles next season.

Killultagh Bob also showed up well on his debut and was putting in his best work towards the finish. He may improve over further.

Foretto ran quite well and stepped up on his debut run at Navan in February, while the promising Leopardstown winner Tranquil Sea possibly found this much quicker ground against him.

Chasing Cars was going well and was making a menacing move on the outer when he lost his legs and slipped up turning in.

Riadolin Lad’s saddle slipped, while Go Calypso clipped heels and unseated his rider early on.

This looked on paper the stronger of the two divisions, although newcomers filled the first three places.

MEADOW VALE staying on well under pressure to score going away in the finish. Another bumper is on the cards before he goes over hurdles according to his trainer.

Another first-timer, Devahna Dancer made nice headway to head the favourite in the straight and looked to be heading for victory for a few strides until the winner was switched to mount his challenge on the outer. He should also improve from this valuable initial experience.

Colonel Jerry threw down his challenge when taking closer order before the straight but couldn't maintain that momentum ahead of the weakening The Patriarch Game. He attempted to make most of the running but had no more to offer once challenged in the closing stages. He was probably feeling the effects of his recent outing at Cork 12 days ago.

Winning point-to-pointer Getbackinline kept on without threatening up front with Nanny Hall, off the track for 509 days, doing her best work in the closing stages. She should benefit from this comeback effort.

Supporters of Sharp Dressed Man, who had reached the frame in three of his four starts coming here, knew their fate early when his saddle slipped. He made headway to lead at one point down the back straight but the writing was always on the wall and he was eventually pulled up close home with his rider lucky to keep the partnership intact.
