TOTE WIN £2.20 PL £1.50, £2.00, £1.80; Ex £17.20; CSF £16.11 Not a lot of strength in depth but a solid effort from BESTOFTHEBROWNIES who finally delivered over jumps. Though bred to stay a lot further, he showed a nice turn of foot to scamper up the hill having travelled strongly all the way under a patient ride. He is to be kept on the go and should continue to do well. Mr Twins produced his best effort over fences. Dropping back in trip, he was still in with a chance at the top of the hill and should be able to win a little chase on this showing. Imtihan again finished behind Bestofthebrownies here. His first effort was on his chasing debut so this has to be slightly disappointing that he was beaten further on this occasion. He had every chance two out but most of his best runs over hurdles were on softer ground. Physical Force led from the first in the back straight on the final circuit until headed by the winner. It was another reasonable run on just his third chase by this winning pointer. |

There was a strong gallop to the beginners' chase, in which ANDRE CHENIER confirmed the promise he had shown on his previous start at Hexham. The better ground was more in his favour and, although he wasn't that fluent, particularly early on, he came from off the pace to lead at the last before being ridden clear. According to trainer Peter Monteith, he wouldn't want the ground any faster than this, and he'll now go for a novice chase, perhaps in the summer period when there will be more options for him. Nebraska City, rated only 84 over hurdles, was having his second start over fences and, although he got a bit low at a few, he set a strong gallop and was headed only at the last. He'll win a race. Bestofthebrownies, who has yet to win a race, ran on to take third, with novice hurdle winner Super Baby running a creditable first race over fences in fourth. Imtihan needs further than this sharp 2m on quick ground and never got into it, and Mange Tout chased the leader for a long way but faded from three out and may need a bit more cut in the ground. |

ELA RE is not easy. A headstrong horse, who can be his own worst enemy, he does, at least, jump well. Having adopted his usual front-running role here, he was headed approaching four out, but his rider sat on him, and got back in front after the next, before driving him home. This success was overdue, but it might not have been gained had Bestofthebrownies jumped more fluently. Having gone to the front, he made a complete mess of the third-last, but battled back and still had a chance when he blundered at the last, a mistake which finished him off and allowed Kentucky Blue to go past him on the run to the line. The eventual runner-up, having his first run of the season, fared pretty encouragingly on his chase debut and is surely open to further improvement. Duke Orsino made a mistake along the back straight and, soon ridden along, was never able to land a telling blow thereafter. ELA RE is not easy. He wasespecially well handled by Tjade Collier, who looks good value for his 7lb allowance. Bestofthebrownies, restrained off the pace, made smooth headway leaving the back straight, and soon looked a real danger to the winner. But, despite still holding every chance at the last, he was never finding enough to get on top. Cardinal Spirit was comfortably held in third on his chasing debut; lightly raced, he can do better in time. Stroom Bank, back up in trip, failed to build on his latest effort. |
