After a stewards' inquiry, the placings remained unaltered

Runner-up in the corresponding race 12 months ago, SUPREME BEING survived a stewards' enquiry into an incident in the closing stages to record his fourth career success.

The winner has had a history of leg trouble according to his trainer but he favours these quicker underfoot conditions. He led before the penultimate flight, hugging the rail, but was clumsy at the last although he rallied bravely to score.

The winning rider appeared to strike the runner-up in the head with his whip when SizingAustralia edged in under pressure. It was deemed to be accidental but certainly didn't help the runner-up although, overall, the best horse on the day probably prevailed.

Sizing Australia was dropping back in trip. He had a previous win over this distance at Punchestown on soft ground last November and he showed his ability to handle these quicker conditions. If stepping up on this, he looks capable of winning a similar contest.

Code Of Rules, a maiden winner over two furlongs shorter last season, was travelling best of all in behind the leaders approaching the third-last. He was switched to the outer to mount his challenge approaching the straight but was soon struggling to quicken in this ground.

These faster conditions helped Red Square Lady, who previously found both the testing conditions and the 1m2f around Navan not to her liking.

Winner of a Grade 3 event on firm ground from Callow Lake at Tipperary last summer, the nine-year-old mare led for a time until giving way when the race unfolded. She looks to be on a potentially nice mark over a trip on the Flat and on this evidence could also pay her way over jumps.

Tasman looks another capable of improvement considering this was his first start since Christmas.

The Bosses Nephew carried 1lb over and when his rider asked him a serious question early in the back straight the writing was soon on the wall, but to his credit he kept on under pressure ahead of Almansoor , who held every chance if good enough over the third-last.

Midnight Traveller, fifth in the Fred Winter at Cheltenham, never got in a blow and was probably feeling his recent trip, while Dosco was another to drop away when the tempo increased approaching the third-last.

On The Other Hand was having his first outing since winning over fences at Galway in September. Raised a total of 24lb following a profitable spell over hurdles in August, he was held up at the rear but when asked to close the gap found little. He is sure to come on for this effort.

A competitive handicap that saw IMPARTIAL win his first race over hurdles in just over two years. He was not at his best when finishing unplaced in a Thurles handicap on his most recent start but held several of the leading protagonists on his third to Selous Scout here in January. After racing at the head of the main group, he had every chance from the second-last and ran on well under pressure to strike the front on the run in. Connections will aim him at a similar contest next.

Pantarez wasgiven a patient ride and arrived travelling strongly early in the straight. He looked to be going best of the leaders between the final two flights but was unable to raise his effort after the last. A consistent sort, he might be better suited by an easier track.

Code Of Rules ran well here last month when third to Take Your Mark and produced a similar effort here. He led at the second-last and still held a narrow advantage when making a bad mistake at the final flight when his reins appeared to break. He looks capable of winning off his current rating.

Regal Force offered encouragement for her future prospects in this sphere, staying on well from before the last.

Carrodown Boy, like Code Of Rules, did not enjoy the best of luck. He started to make good progress on the outer off the final turn but his rider lost his irons after the second-last where his cause wasn't helped by Sherntaine, who made a mistake when directly in front of him. He has run several good races here lately and looks good enough to make his mark in this sphere.

Jamie's Boy is a dual course-and-distance winner and showed signs that he could be returning to form with a respectable effort.

Out The Gap has been dropping down the ratings and further respite from the handicapper could make him an interesting proposition.

Sherntaine was in the front rank when making a costly mistake at the second last that knocked her back through the field.

The Jockey reported the buckle on the reins of Code OfRules came undone after the last.

Carrodown Boy's jockey reported that he lost his irons early in the straight.

An ordinary handicap produced a third win over hurdles, and his first for a year, for TAKE YOUR MARK, who won going away after closing from four out and leading before the final hurdle. He seems well suited by testing ground.

Carrodown Boy, pulled up on his previous start at Fairyhouse (reported to have lost his action), had run well when fourth over 2m here last month. He produced another solid effort here, making headway from three out and staying on to go second after the final hurdle. He should be up to winning a similar type event.

Code Of Rules, a maiden hurdle winner over 2m4f last season, produced his best effort since that victory. Sent to the front before four out, he was headed before the last from where he failed to quicken.

Ballynashig, placed three times from 19 previous attempts over hurdles, was dropping back in trip and probably needs to go back up in distance judged on his performance here. He made steady progress from three out and stayed on under pressure in the closing stages.

Ultimate Force, having his second run back following a long absence, showed improvement from his run at Fairyhouse eight days previously and may improve again.

The Colt King, twice a winner over hurdles at up to 2m2f, closed three out and went fourth two out, but he was already under strong pressure at that stage and could make little impression.

Sauterelle was reported to have burst a blood vessel, while the rider of Monarch Pass reported that his mount had made a respiratory noise in running.
