TOTE WIN £7.10 PL £2.60, £6.00, £2.80; Ex £155.90; CSF £105.12; TRICAST £812.83 After a stewards' inquiry, the placings remained unaltered. SON OF MARY, a winner on the Flat and successful over hurdles at the 2005 Listowel Festival, was pressing for the lead when he made what could have been a costly blunder two out. However, he recovered quickly and was in front soon afterwards to win driven out. "He's a funny horse and was on and off the bridle, but he seemed to like the track and will probably come back here," trainer Noel Meade said of the winner. Coolgreaney, having her second run back following a break, put in a good effort.Winner of a 2m maiden hurdle at Wexford late in the 2005-2006 season, she was prominent all the way and was disputing the lead two out before the winner took control. She should be capable of winning a similar type handicap. Bernabeu, a dual hurdles winner, had not run over hurdles since scoring off an 8lb lower mark at Limerick in October. A couple of runs on the Flat in recent weeks should have left him right for this return and after making a forward move before three out he was poised to challenge at the second last from where he kept on under pressure. Corrieann, twice a winner over hurdles (at 2m and 2m 4f), was contesting her first handicap following a 13l win at Wexford on her previous start. She raced prominently and remained in contention despite mistakes five out and three out before finding herself a bit short of room on the inside before the last where she appeared to stumble on landing. Ohmissymoss, placed a couple of times from ten previous attempts over hurdles, stayed on steadily from three out, giving the impression that she will appreciate further. Games, a bumper winner here in July, had failed to make the frame in five previous attempts over hurdles. He made the running running and after slight mistakes at the third and again three out was headed before the second last where he again was a bit sloppy. He kept on and is another who may be suited a step up in trip. Barman, favourite on the strength of his third at Limerick 12 days previously when returning from a long absence, made a forward move after four out but was soon being driven along and could only keep on without ever posing a real threat. |
