Looking for her first win in two years, KEYS PRIDE defied top weight and a near four-month absence to prevail. The seven-year-old had just a Killarney bumper win to her name but had shown that she could win over hurdles when chasing home Gabrona in amaiden at that track almost exactly a year ago. Although this was her first handicap, she had plenty of experience over hurdles. She was travelling best off all from before the second last and took over in front at the last. This was a creditable effort and on this evidence she might be placed to further advantage over hurdles. Trainer Stephen Ryan reported that she will also go chasing at some stage. Frontier Lady was always up with the pace and held every chance from the second last. Although she eventually got the better of Meet The Family, she was unable to match the winner. She can improve from her first run since December. Meet The Family held a good position leaving the back straight and had a spell in the lead from the second last but was unable to raise her effort in the closing stages. She is running off the same mark as when last successful and this was a sound effort on her first start since November. Northern Lakes did run at all badly on his first outing since December. He could never quite land a telling blow but this was only the fifth run of his career and there should be better to come from him. Stealing Moments was staying on in the closing stages. He is good enough to win at this level and will improve for his first run since November. Mr Muffin Man wasn't disgraced but more will be needed if he is to make his mark over hurdles. He probably ran to a similar level as when sixth to Whats Up Bob at Gowran last time. Thoor Ballylee was unable to match the form he showed in a couple of handicaps towards the end of last year and may prefer easier ground. Persian Return didn't run at all badly and should be all the better for his first run for 236 days. Duroob is another who came here off a couple of creditable efforts on soft ground but was below his best here. |

After taking the lead four out she looked booked for a minor role when Keys Pride went to the front at the second last. However, Gabrona rallied well under pressure on the run to the last and got back up close home. She can be expected to improve for this experience and looks as though she will be suited by further. Trainer Henry de Bromhead reported that she wants anease in the ground. Keys Pride had something to find with a few of these on her recent efforts but she posted an improved performance here. A bumper winner at this track almost exactly a year ago, she looked sure to score when going to the front at the second last but was just outstayed. A similar performance will see her open her account over hurdles. Midnight Gift was a decent sort in bumpers and was also having her first run over hurdles. Always close to the pace, she was unable to go with the front two from the second-last but kept on under pressure. She will not have to wait long for her first success. Swiss Hall looked likely to take a hand in the finish when making good progress on the outer leaving the back straight but she was soon under pressure. Haydens First showed some good form to reach the frame in several bumpers and maiden hurdles. She was having her first run since February and stayed on from the second-last having been eighth turning into the straight. She may be in need of a longer trip. Mocha Mystery was unable to raise her effort from before the third last, while Satco Touch gradually weakened after relinquishing the lead at the fourth-last. |
