Having hinted at enough ability to win a race of this nature at Thurles last time, DEAD SOUND ran out the winner under a polished ride. His trainer said plans will be "low-key" for the three-time winner and a "little handicap" is on the agenda next.
Pom Flyer travelled well to take it up until the winner wore him down after the last. The Durkan New Homes Novice Chase entry won three times over hurdles at 2m and having reached the frame each time in three starts over fences, he looks capable ofgetting off the mark in this sphere soon.
The well-exposed Bluestone Lad had a rating of 96 coming into this and will have had some confidence restored after falling at Punchestown last time.
Wishwillow Lord, successful in the valuable Menolly Homes Handicap Hurdle at Fairyhouse last Easter, had failed to complete on his chasing debut at Killarney in September. This was more encouraging despite weakening in the straight for the three-time winner over hurdles, who is more effective on betterground.
Gaspar led for a long way until dropping away again, while Royal County Star was creeping closer when making a bad mistake and losing all momentum at the second-last.
