RACE REPORT

The testing conditions found out most of these novices, but even though OVER THE BLUES had not been tried beyond 2m3f in three hurdles runs, he got the extended trip best of all to record a hard-earned win. His jumping was not all it might have been on this chase debut, but it was not easy to jump out of this slow ground. In any event, this was a winning start for him and he can only improve.
Oakfield Legend, who has struggled in handicaps since winning a novice here in May, was back to form with a solid run in second, but with several of the fancied runners, such as Penny Park and Big Business failing to show their true worth, it remains to be seen what it amounts to.
Joe Brown, who had won a point in gruelling conditions last year, was in the process of running a fine first race over regulation fences when he departed two out. He still held every chance at the time, and if he suffers no ill-effects could gain quick compensation.
