Not fancied beforehand, newcomer TAX EXEMPTION took full advantage of racing wide in search of better ground to lead entering the final furlong. Out of former Cheltenham Festival winner Tourist Attraction, she had shown little at home according to her trainer and is likely to go hurdling next.
The race turned into a slog in atrocious conditions, with Jennys Oscar finding no more when challenged in the closing stages and The Girlfriend weakening after leading into the straight.
Simons Girl was well fancied to go one better than her second place finish in a mares' only point-to-point bumper at Tipperary in May. The former winning pointer was not helped when asked for her effort in horrible cut-up ground and is obviously better that this bare form suggests.
El Jo was racing here on the back of a couple of starts in maiden hurdle company and wasn't disgraced, while newcomer Zhdanovichy led from halfway when early leader Knockane Gold weakened quickly, but he was another who never handled these underfoot conditions. |
