BACCHANAL TAKES STEP CLOSER TO FESTIVAL TARGET |

Bacchanal went for an alarming walk in the market before the Network Design Feltham Novice's chase, but the betting ring got it all wrong and he maintained his unbeaten record over fences, winning a distance from Take control |

Bacchanal jumped to his right when winning on his chasing debut at Newbury last month, though his trainer Nicky Henderson said after yesterday's victory under Mick Fitzgerald: "I didn't think he did very much wrong on his debut and I was impressed with him today. He has his own way of doing things and does it all on his forehand, but that's him. He certainly jumps fences much better than he ever did hurdles. He's a big bull of a horse and a big bull of an unfit horse at the moment. He had a couple of cuts after he'd won at Newbury and it has been a struggle to get him here. We'll need to keep him going - he certainly won't want a break - though I don't know at the moment where he'll go from next." Bacchanal regained the lead from Crocade when that rival, who looked beaten at the time, fell at the second-last, leaving the winner clear for his wide-margin success. He is now 3/1 for the Royal & sun Alliance Chase at the Cheltenham Festival with Victor Chandler and 5/2 with the Tote. |
