TOTE WIN £6.20 PL £5.00, £1.80, £1.40, £1.40; Ex £32.30; CSF £51.37 After a stewards' inquiry, placings remained unaltered. ANALYSIS: The going, officially yielding, was described as tacky by the jockeys. This was a good juvenile hurdle run at a strong pace and KING OF MERLIA, a winner on his jumping debut at Navan, led at the last and stayed on strongly. Trainer Eamonn Sheehy said: "He will go for the good juvenile hurdle at Leopardstown on St Stephen's Day. He is a better racehorse than he shows at home and enjoys both jumping and this ground." Kells Castle led three out until headed by the winner. He was squeezed on the run-in and bounced against the rail. There was some surprise that there was no stewards inquiry but he was already beaten at the time. His rider lodged an optimistic objection and this was overruled. Clear Riposte raced prominently and kept on well. She had scored by a wide margin on her hurdling debut at Thurles but had a lot more on her plate here. Miss Caruso raced in mid-division and made good progress in the straight. She won in heavy ground at Limerick last month and may be able to win again. Baileysunice was well beaten behind King Of Merlia on his jumping debut at Navan and this was a much better effort. He should come on enough to win. De Laurentiis disappointed and was found to have burst a blood vessel.
