ANALYSIS: Quite an interesting beginners' event, and a taking performance from CROSSBOW CREEK on his chasing debut. A high-class handicapper over hurdles last term, rated 137 over the smaller obstacles, he travelled strongly, taking a hold as the gallop was not sufficiently strong for him, before easing to the front three for home and asserting for a ready success. He jumped accurately throughout and is likely to step up into Grade 2 company in the Henry VIII Novices' Chase at Sandown a week tomorrow provided the ground comes up good.

Kings Brook seemed to appreciate being ridden more positively and this was an improvement on his previous chase form, although the winner was in a different class. He jumped pretty well and should find a little race, although he is not the sort to find much for pressure.

Another quirky individual is Chockdee, who was a little disappointing on this chasing bow even if he did have 17lb to find with Crossbow Creek on BHB hurdles ratings. He jumped out to his left when the heat was on but has the talent to win in ordinary novice company.

Nayodabayo jumped pretty well until crashing out at the last on his recent British debut at Ludlow, but he made a couple of errors here and was beaten with four to jump. Minor handicaps should be more his scene.

Zibeline, the second highest rated of these over hurdles but not at his best for some time, did not look a natural over fences in two attempts last winter and confirmed that impression here. In his defence, he probably needs further these days
