An eventful contest which had a ragged start (no stalls for amateur rider events at this track), an incident where one rider was unseated early in the straight and a running and riding incident which led to heavy penalties. Royal Alphabet a dual bumper winner, was making his flat debut and was a warm order in the market. He got very warm himself before the race and was one of those who lost ground at the start. Travelling well in mid-division down the back straight, he looked set for a comfortable win when he went second over a furlong out. But he soon had a battle on his hands before asserting in the last 100 yards. This was the most testing ground he has raced on and Willie Mullins is convinced he needs it much drier. Mullins said: "We were thinking of Royal Ascot for him at one stage but that will come to soon for him. We'll see what rating he gets and probably look for a winners race for him next time." |
