A decent maiden hurdle saw Back In Front justify his short price in good style although he had to be put to the test by Arch Stanton on the run in. A dual bumper winner who had run third in the Cheltenham Festival Bumper last year, the winner had made a very encouraging start over hurdles when second in a Grade 1 event at Fairyhouse early last month. Here he arrived travelling well to lead at the last and, while he had to be kept up to his task to see off the challenge of the runner-up, he was always in control of the situation. As he had been held up since his previous run, improvement can be expected and if he is to have another run before the Supreme Novices at Cheltenham the Deloitte & Touche Hurdle back here on February 9 would appear the most likely race for him |
