Quite a competitive handicap and the pace seemed fair. Critical Stage has been running well over trips short of his best recently, including when third to Intricate Web over an extended nine furlongs at Wolverhampton on his previous outing, Stepped up to a more suitable trip he recorded a hard fought success under a good aggressive ride from Jamie Spencer, who kept him right up to his work in the straight. This was his first win in a year, but he claimed back to back victories this time last season and could go close again, despite being higher in the weights this time around. |
