He disputed the leas for much of the way and after being pressed by the runner-up from three out, he settled the issue with a fine big leap at the final hurdle. Trainer Dessie Hughes: "He's a summer ground horse and will be going to Galway before starting off over fences about September time." Alpha Royale, a six length winner of a Ballinrobe maiden over this trip on his previous start, was encountering faster ground here. He moved into second place before three out and soon had every chance before the winner outjumped him at the last. Incidential, winner of a maiden over this distance at Clonmel on his previous start, also had every chance but he appeared held in third place when he made a mistake two out from where he could make no impression on the first two. Faayej, successful over the trip on yielding ground at Wexford last month, shared the lead with the winner. He was being ridden along well before three out and was unable to raise his effort from there. Terinka ran her best race to date and stayed on from three out without ever being in serious contention while Good Old Days, stepping up in trip after a maiden win at Downpatrick last month, showed up for a long way until losing touch with the leaders after four out. |
