ANALYSIS: A race consisting of a mixture of lightly-raced performers and newcomers went to one of the latter group with BALLINTRA BOY, not the shortest priced of Noel Meade's three runners but by no means unfancied, putting up a decent performance. After being held up, he made steady progress from 5f out and got the split he needed to challenge and lead over 1f out. He stayed on well for pressure and afterwards Meade said: "He's a decent horse and was almost ready to run last year when he developed a little problem behind. He had done only one piece of serious work for today." Limestream, runner-up here on her debut last month, is out of an own-sister to Limestone Lad and she produced another good effort, racing prominently and disputing the lead from early in the straight. She kept on under pressure when headed and will do better going further, especially when she goes jumping. Dulgodti Bob, fourth on his debut at Thurles in January, produced a decent effort and after losing his place before the straight he stayed on quite well under pressure from 2f out. Harper's Pride had shown ability on his two previous starts and did so again here, racing close to the pace and keeping on under pressure after going third into the straight. Stringfellow made an encouraging debut, leading or disputing the lead until early in the straight. He comes from a stable that has produced a few fair bumper performers this season and he should be up to winning a similar type event judged on this display. Sporting Limerick, a stablemate of the winner, was at one stage the subject of speculation for the Cheltenham Festival bumper. However, that was never a serious option and although he showed signs of ability on this debut run he did run verygreen. Macs Mandalus was another first-timer to catch the eye, in the ring and in the race. He came there with his effort on the inside under 2f out and although unable to carry it through he is bound to come on for the run. Bisley, fifthon his debut at Down Royal 12 days previously, Woodhouse, who had performed creditably on his first outing at Naas, and newcomer Flaming James were others to catch the eye. |
