Lord Joshua regained his position among the market leaders for the JCB Triumph Hurdle with an impressive four-length defeat of former classy Irish Flat-racer Derivative in the Juvenile Hurdle.
The Nicky Henderson trained colt is now 16/1 from 25/1 with Coral, but is only 12/1 with Ladbrokes, who have him joint-favourite with the gambled on French challenger Tempo d'Or and Giacomo.
Lord Joshua is the first jumper in Britain for the American ambassador Will Farish, who owns him in partnership with his wife and Lady Lloyd Webber.
The winner cost 130,000gns when bought out of Gerald Butlers yard with middle distance form on the Flat.
Lord Joshua finished third to Domirome at Kempton on his hurdling debut but his trainer and Mick Fitzgerald his jockey knew that was not his form and their confidence was rewarded with a display that was much improved in all the key departments. Henderson said "he had schooled well at home and I thought he'd be brilliant at jumping at Kempton but he took a long look at the first. He was brilliant this time, though, and I couldn't have been more pleased with his jumping. He'll come on for that too".
