A first Pattern success for trainer Eoghan O'Neill who deserves credit for spotting a suitable opportunity. RED RIOJA had reportedly impressed Kieron Fallon when winning a maiden at Kempton, but in strict form terms she did not beat much here. The three fillies who took the minor money behind her went into the race with ratings of 85, 85 and 87 respectively, two of them being maidens and the other (the runner up) a minor winner at Galway.
O'Neill commented, "I was fairy sure that she would handle the ground. We've always thought a lot of her and she will run in the Rockfel Stakes and after that the Miesque Stakes at Hollywood Park."
After being switched just inside the last furlong. Red Rioja ran on well and will stay further on this evidence. She is from the family of Barathea and Gossamer.
