SOVIET LEGEND escaped the worst of the melee and, clearly benefiting from the fitting of first-time blinkers after showing little in a series of runs at up to 1m, finished best of all after needing to be switched halfway up the straight to get up on the line. Tombalina, who had run a decent second at Lingfield last month, turned in another sound effort and should be able to pick up a similar weak affair. Signor Whippee, who had failed to reach a place in six starts on turf, fared better on this first try on the all-weather but got the run of the race, unlike the several hampered runners, and it remains to be seen whether he was flattered by this performance. Prettilini was always struggling to get on the pace from an outside draw after a tardy start. She kept on well for pressure, but this 5f looked on the sharp side for her. |
