TOTE WIN £2.20 PL £1.40, £3.90, £3.70; Ex £26.70; CSF £23.85; TRICAST £194.32 Course record. ANALYSIS: A seriously impressive performance from RED SPELL who broke the course record over seven furlongs just seven days ago and did the same here over a mile. As the time suggests, this was run at a true gallop, set by San Antonio, and the winner was heldup some way of the pace but, as they turned for home, he was given the office by Richard Hughes and swept past his rivals in taking style under just hands and heels riding to win comfortably. This victory comes off a mark of 94 and given the nature of the success, it's surely safe to assume that he is bordering on pattern class now and it will be interesting to see where connections go from here. Richard Hannon made it a 1-2 with Psychiatrist, who has looked difficult to place recently off 90 but on this evidence he won't have any problem finding a race if this form can be reproduced. Bahiano has been called a few names in recent times and his losing run stands at 27 but he can't be faulted for this effort, though may need to drop a couple of pounds before he can finally get his head back in front. The race in which San Antonio finished second over six furlongs here last time is working out particularly well and although he was comprehensively beaten here, he probably hasn't run too far below that form and will almost certainly find another race soon despite creeping up in the weights. Wyatt Earp was well supported in the morning and stayed on well enough but couldn't find the acceleration necessary to trouble the principles. This was his toughest assignment to date though and may be seen to better effect back at seven furlongs |
