ANALYSIS: While this race has shown an upward swing in class befitting its rise to Group status, this renewal caused hardly a ripple on the Classic betting front, but can still throw up plenty of future Group-race winners.
Both AUSSIE RULES and Killybegs were beaten in their Group 3 quests last time, but fought out this finish ahead of promising maiden winners. As such the form looks solid Group 3 status and the better ground seemed to suit the well-bred Aussie Rules, who has a progressive profile if a little behind the Classic pretenders.
Aussie Rules was still green through the race, looking an unlikely winner into the final two furlongs but he ground out success, leaving the impression that over further and with a winter's development, he can go still higher on the Group ranking.
Killybegs, put firmly in his place in the Doncaster Champagne Stakes on loosening ground, was another seen to better effect back on this faster ground. He too looks progressive with Group 3 winner written all over him.
Stepping Up was shut away against the inside rail and did not get the run of the race. He was also very green both to post and through the race, suggesting he can improve considerably on the bare form. This half-brother to useful Fly To The Stars looks sure to progress as well.
Metropolitan Man was another for whom the race did not fall right. He was quite keen in behind early and ran green when asked to challenge. He was getting organised late and staying on nicely to suggest a return to winning form sooner rather than later.
Yasoodd gives the form a strong look as he ran his usual game race, attacking widest out midtrack and keeping on well.
Araafa showed good speed in making the most of his rails draw and still had a chance into the final furlong before weakening close home.
West Of Amarillo was not disgraced and ran a shade better than in the Champagne Stakes behind Killybegs. (BJ)
